Live from ... SumbawaAfter 3,5 years in West Papua, starting January 2012 we'll be stationed in Sumbawa, Indonesia. We made this website to take you along on our continuing journey in which we will still be focusing on the social activities in West Papua for the SDSP (Foundation for Sustainable Development Papua Barat) but at the same time start a new adventure in Sumbawa. There we will lead the development of a sustainable, horticultural local enterprise focusing on shallot production under the umbrella of the Female Farmers Partnership. For more information on our continuing efforts in West Papua we suggest you take a look at our website www.kuku.nl (Dutch)

INTRODUCTION
December 2011
Since June 2008 we, Jurgen and Ellis, have been working hard to help the Papuan people in the inland of West Papua to build up a sustainable society in which health care, education, agriculture, housing and nature conservation are organized in a more efficient and effective manner.
The Mother & Childcare Program in the district of Senopi in the Bird's Head peninsula, was the program that combined all of these subjects in an integral approach. The Dutch Foundation for Sustainable Development Papua Barat (SDSP) and the Diocese of Manokwari - Sorong worked together to fund this extensive program. And they - and we - will continue to do so for the spin-off programs that are still running as we speak.
However; we will no longer be based in West Papua itself, but in Sumbawa. This has to do with the other adventure we will dive into from January 2012: in Sumbawa we will be leading the development of a horticultural enterprise for local - most female - farmers that focuses on the production of shallots. We will be focusing on both the technical/organisational framework and the social framework (HIV-AIDS education, illiteracy etc.)
With our experience on the spot in West Papua, we are convinced that we can 'jump onto this new bandwagon' and can also keep our goal alive. Which is: support local people to create a system that, by developing socio-economic activities, can continue to provide revenue and a better life for a community.
We are very happy to have had the opportunity to set up this important system in the district of Senopi in West Papua and are thrilled that we are in the position to continue to add more body and support to this framework in West Papua AND help create this framework for the people in Sumbawa.
